Discover the Hart of the Flinders Ranges - 4 days

Melbourne - Broken Hill - Balcanoona - Arkaroola - Rawnsley Park - Wilpena - Melbourne

 
Day One: Melbourne, Essendon - Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary

AAA guests depart Melbourne's Essendon airport at 0800 tracking over Victoria's Wheat Belt to Mildura for morning tea. From Mildura, travel on to Balcanoona. Arriving at the airfield, at Arkaroola, you are welcomed by your host Doug Sprigg. Afternoon activities include a very special Ridge Top Tour offering a most spectacular and scenic experience featuring magnificent views of the Flinders Ranges. After dinner you may wish to spend some time viewing the millions of stars through a powerful telescope provided, conditions here are generally superb for stargazing. Time to rest; accommodation is at Arkaroola Lodge.

Day Two: Arkaroola - Rawnsley Park Station

Enjoying breakfast together, rejoin the aircraft and depart for Rawnsley Park southward providing more spectacular views of the Flinders Ranges and the Wilpena Pound. Aerial navigation is the perfect way to view the wonder of the natural amphitheatre that is The Pound. AAA guests are welcomed at the airfield by your hosts at Rawnsley Park Station. Slow and steady wins the race this morning as guests are guided into the Wilpena Pound trails. You are sure to be amazed by the incredible narrow entrance to this unique land formation which as the name suggests is completely surrounded by mountains. St Mary's peak stakes claim as the highest landform rising no less than 3800 feet. Returning by sunset, dining is at the rustic Woolshed Restaurant. Time to rest; accommodation is at Rawnsley Park Station.

Day Three: Wilpena Pound

Today's adventure includes a full day mountain top tour, exploring Bunyeroo Gorge, Brachina Gorge, the Heysen Trail with spectacular views of Lake Torrens and Mooralana Valley. Morning tea and a delicious BBQ lunch is catered for on this adventure. AAA guests return as the sun sets across the Wilpena Pound. Time to rest; accommodation is at Rawnsley Park Station. Farewell dinner celebrations are in the Woolshed Restaurant.

Day Four: Rawnsley Park Station - Broken Hill - Essendon, Melbourne

Mornings at Rawnsley Park Station are easy on the senses; enjoy breakfast prior to departing for Broken Hill. Broken Hill is renowned for its mining history and more recently chosen by many of Australia's prominent artists as their home. International visitors will soon learn of the big Australian, also known as the quiet achiever, BHP Ltd. AAA guests will be escorted on a relaxing tour of the city centre with opportunities to visit Broken Hill's mining museum and any one of the various art galleries.

During 2006, Australians said goodbye to the late Pro Hart, highly regarded as one of Australia's most famous artists, or the people's artist, Pro Hart leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories for all to reflect upon and enjoy through his work and his children who continue on with his vision today. From the bold brashness of Pro Hart's gallery, one of the largest private collections in Australia, AAA guests also have the opportunity to view the gentle landscapes of the equally famous outback personality, Jack Absalom. Art exploration continues with the gallery works of Roxanne Minchin, inspirational art will enthral all guests, thus completing an endless buffet of creativity prior to dining for lunch at the Musicians Club. AAA pilots and guides escort guests back to the aircraft for a special scenic flight tracking homeward to be welcomed at Essendon Airport, Melbourne at 1700.
