Destination Profile - Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge, Queensland
We have 30 ensuite; safari cabins set at ground level & separate from each other. The cabins are set among native trees and ancient macrozamia palms. Cabins contain queen bed, or queen bed plus a single, ensuite bathroom, tea & coffee facilities, small fridge, air cooler & heater. Our restaurant is licensed and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
To make your stay with more enjoyable, we advise bringing the following: - Walking Boots, Sunscreen, Hat, Insect Repellent, Camera, Binoculars, Swimmers, and Layers of clothing for the cooler months. Dress standards at the lodge and restaurant are casual - we just want you to be completely comfortable throughout your stay.
Guest Lounge offers an area for our guests to be able to sit and watch one of our videos or watch our presentation on the gorge and the flora and fauna of the area.
You'll have plenty of time to relax and unwind in the tranquil surroundings of the lodge, so pack a good book. There are no phones in the cabins, no mobile phone coverage and no TV - tranquility instead.
We are part of the World Heritage listed Carnarvon Gorge National Park, which is home to a third of the country's bird species and an incredible array of other native flora and fauna.
We are committed to the environment; our water comes from the Carnarvon Creek. It is filtered & UV treated. We have recently installed a state of the art sewage treatment plant, which produces high grade recycled water. This is used for sub surface irrigation. Untreated water is used for garden irrigation, so please do not drink water from garden taps. We have also recently embarked on a program to eliminate exotic plant species & replace them with indigenous plants.
Driving from the main road turnoff through to the Lodge there is a 44-kilometre drive including 23 kilometers of unsealed road. The road is suitable for sedan cars except when extreme rainfall has been experienced. The lodge no longer supplies fuel, so you need to make sure you have ample for your return trip. All major credit cards are accepted.
