Destination Profile - Esperance, Western Australia
Graced with a temperate climate year round and sugar-white sand bordered by brilliant blue-water bays, the peace and simplicity of the Esperance region is a large part of its appeal. Characterised by spectacular coastal scenery; an abundance of wildlife including seals, dolphins, whales, emus and sea eagles; pristine beaches, it also includes hundreds of islands and extensive national parks. It is one of the only places in Western Australia where you will see kangaroos sunbathing on the beach!
The Esperance region of Western Australia is one of Australia's fastest growing visitor destinations. Esperance has a population of 12,000 and is approximately 721 km south-east of Perth.
The surrounding Recherche Archipelago, consisting of some 200 coastal islands, has a myriad of marine life in crystal clear water for divers and snorkelers to enjoy. One of the most popular water activities in the region is that of the Bay of Isles cruise, to Woody Island by boat, where there is simple but comfortable accommodation and excellent walking trails.
Other highlights are the Pink Lake - a natural phenomenon true to its name; Cape Le Grand, and Fitzgerald River National Park.
A necklace of several hundred islands comprising the Recherche Archipelago adorns the coast of this most beautiful region. As a consequence, Esperance is known as The Bay Of Isles.
This destination is part of the Western Wedge Safari Australian Adventure.
