Day 1 Melbourne/Sydney to Lord Howe Island This morning board Air Adventure’s Outback Jet for the flight across to Lord Howe Island. From the East Coast of the mainland it’s just a 90 minute flight until you land on your own slice of paradise in the South Pacific. Lord Howe Island is known for its lovely ‘perpetual spring’ weather and is home to just 300 locals. The island restricts the amount of visitors so you will never see a crowd. After being greeted at the airport by your hosts you will be transferred to the luxurious confines of Capella Lodge, sister property to Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island. Capella has featured at the top of ‘Gold Lists’ by Gourmet Traveller and Conde Nast magazine. After a welcome orientation by long time managers Mark and Libby, Ian Hutton will present the natural history of the island to set the scene for your days to come.
Accommodation: for your entire stay is at the deluxe Capella Lodge in a Lagoon Loft Suite
Days 2, 3 & 4 Lord Howe Island Our approach is very relaxed for this tour and you can do as little or as much as you like of the planned activities. Our itinerary on the island is dictated by the weather pattern while you are there. Your hosts will keep an eye out on the forecast and adjust the itinerary so that each planned excursion is in the best possible conditions. Also organised for you is a Hosted Island Tour which includes a Glass Bottomed Boat cruise during which your experienced skipper will explain how precious this most southerly coral reef system is. There is also the option to snorkel on this trip. Being one of Lord Howe’s most postcard-perfect beaches, Ned’s Beach is a great spot for fish feeding and snorkeling. Ned’s has also been voted as one of Australia’s cleanest beaches. Ned’s is also where the Island’s fish will come to you. Be part of a tradition that has enchanted visitors and locals for generations – any time of day make your way to Ned’s and feed the mullet, wrasse, garfish, silver-drummer, spangled-emperor and of course the royalty of Lord Howe fish, the metre-long kingfish. You can also join world renowned naturalist Ian Hutton for a guided interpretive tour of Mt Eliza. Another day excursion is to the pristine North Bay which is located in a remote area of the Lagoon that surrounds Lord Howe itself.
Accessible by boat our day long excursion takes you to stunning coral gardens. See abundant fish life, enjoy bushwalking and visit seabird colonies. A sumptuous BBQ lunch will also be served. There are also bikes at your disposal as well as numerous walks and strolls that depart from the Lodge. Other activities you may choose to enjoy include fishing charters, the Mt Gower hike (voted as one of the best day hikes in Australia), golf or SCUBA diving.
Accommodation: The luxurious Capella Lodge
