John Dyer's Story
John Stuart Dyer, Tour Director - Rod Dyer's Air Adventure Australia, AAA
John was born in Hamilton in the Western District of Victoria, located between the mountainous Grampians and the dramatic Southern Ocean.
John, alongside his father Rod Dyer has been flying around in small aircraft since he was an infant. Clear memories are held fondly by John as he recalls the comprehensive survey of Cape York, now a very popular AAA itinerary. Following this, not having reached his teens, John also clearly recalls being part of a six state tour, resulting in another popular AAA itinerary. John says, "I have always loved the colours of the country and the wildlife of the Australian outback, especially our prehistoric crocodiles. I have matured with my father's business, along with extensive world travel I can see that there is much more to the Australian outback than I first perceived". John's childhood was mostly spent travelling to the many and various properties owned by his family to assist his father.
John's passion for adventure and tourism saw him complete three seasons of hospitality operations at Victoria's Mount Hotham ski fields. Canada calling, John departed Australia to travel to the heart of the Rockies completing various tourism positions across the six mountain season pass. John developed an unquenchable thirst for quality travel experiences, new cultures and exotic locations.
Gourmet food and wine is a passion for John Dyer, appreciating with high-regard the chef's cuisine he has experienced of Eastern Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and China - however, John's favourite food and wine experiences is weighted heavily toward the extremely talented stable of Australian chefs and wineries, remaining most loyal to the wine produced within the various regions across Australia as the best in the world, in his opinion.
Hungry to broaden his reach on hospitality and tourism John ventured further a-field into Europe spending time at both the picturesque French and Swiss Alps, currently planning his next survey of Alaska with potential for a very special AAA Global Expedition for future AAA guests. On completion of the Alaska survey, John is working on an itinerary which will include trekking from Tibet into Nepal, visiting the north face of the mighty Mount Everest. John, via a colleague who recently returned from the Mount Everest Base Camp, is researching local cultures and religions of this unique destination in readiness prior to the creation of yet another AAA guest itinerary option.
Respectfully, John says. "My religion is the natural world. I worship the beauty of the natural world and what it has to offer". "From a mountain formed with powers I can only ever imagine to experiencing the sheer pristine beauty of a breaking wave". "My travels have also taken me to the North Shore of Hawaii to surf at all the places I have read about in magazines since I was young. John is a member of the Surfrider Foundation, understanding the importance of protecting the environment, adding "planet earth was not made for us alone".
Coffee making, John received accolades as a contender in the World Barista Championships held in Melbourne. "On the hospitality side I have learnt some rather sharp coffee making skills having worked alongside some of Melbourne's greatest Baristas, including the current Australian champion, Dave Makin, who I dearly thank for assisting me and endorsing my sponsorship provided by Piazza d'Oro. John still admires the work of a fine Barista, "It is mechanical, a robotic performance that Barista's spend years perfecting, no-one ever wins on raw talent alone".
Today, John Dyer is as enthusiastic to meet new people as ever. Clearly, he has inherited from his father a wonderful ability to simply listen. John takes sincere pleasure to hear the stories of others. "I find great inspiration in others achievements. I am currently studying to speak Mandarin Chinese, hoping eventually with enough effort I may be able to offer a return conversation to my Chinese colleagues in their native tongue."
